MURPHY MOVES ONTO NCAA FINALS


JACKSONVILLE, FL- Redshirt senior Corey Murphy became the third Hawk in as many days to advance to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the University of Texas in Austin, Texas. He threw a school record breaking 63'9.75" (19.45 meters) in the shot put to finish third in the East Preliminary. The indoor All-American qualifies for his first NCAA Outdoor Championships and is the first Monmouth shot putter to qualify since Errol Jeffery in 2013. Murphy broke the school record of 63'8.25" set by Jon Kalnas in 2002. Kalnas is a 3-time First Team All-American, 3-time Olympic Trials qualifier and Monmouth University Hall of Famer. Murphy hit 19.45m on his first throw, then followed up a 19.42m throw. Both of those marks were beyond his previous best of 19.22m. Murphy joins Kalnas and Dylan Capwell '18 as the only Monmouth athlete to make it to the NCAA Finals both indoors and outdoors.
