Yearwood Named Head Coach of Women's Swimming Team
FLUSHING, N.Y. (June 18, 2019) – The Queens College Athletics and Recreation Department has announced the hiring of John Yearwood as the Head Coach of the women's swimming team as of Monday (June 17). Yearwood will head up the program in Flushing following a dual stint as the head coach of the men's and women's swimming teams at the College of New Rochelle. He brings with him a bevy of experience and success with the Blue Angels including a 2016-17 women's swim squad that set all 23 team records. "We are very excited," stated Interim Director of Athletics Rob Twible, "to be bringing on a coach of John's caliber. He has proven to be successful in his time in New Rochelle and also is a prominent figure in the swim community as well. Queens College looks forward to John's experience and acumen launching the Knights into a brand-new era in the pool and we are sure that this hire will bring a continued success and excellence for our swimmers." Yearwood served on the National Diversity Committee for USA Swimming and also is a board member for Metropolitan Swimming. He was an assistant coach at The College of Mount Saint Vincent prior to his tenure in New Rochelle and also oversaw a four-year period at the Ethical Culture Fieldston School in which the squad there set 24 new team and school records. "I want to thank Interim Director of Athletics Rob Twible and his staff," Yearwood expressed, "for expressing the confidence in me to be selected as the new head coach of the swimming team here at Queens College. Having competed against QC in the past, I know how dedicated these student-athletes are to plying their craft and being the best in and out of the pool. I look forward to continuing this trend of excellence as the head coach of this program and am eager to begin on this journey with the Knights."
