Volleyball Reveals 2019 Schedule


BROOKLYN, N.Y.— The Long Island University volleyball team, led by head coach Ken Ko, in his fifth season, announced their 2019 schedule on Wednesday morning. The Sharks will compete in three tournaments before beginning Northeast Conference play in late September. LIU will open the season with the University of Colorado Invitational August 30 and 31, taking on UC Santa Barbara and Colorado. The Sharks will then travel up to Wyoming on Monday, August 2 on for a match. LIU closes the trip out west with the BYU Invitational, September 5 to September 7. There, the Sharks will take on BYU, Weber State and Sam Houston State. The 15-day opening road swing closes with the Osprey Invitational in Jacksonville, Florida September 13 and 14, competing in three matches over the two days. Competition for the Sharks includes Florida International, North Florida and Charleston Southern. LIU makes its home debut against San Jose State on September 19. In part of the Big Apple Battle, the Sharks will take on local foes, Fordham and Columbia on September 20 and 21 in the Steinberg Center. Northeast Conference action for the two-time defending regular season champions will start on the road for the third straight season with a matchup at Central Connecticut State on September 27. LIU will close out the weekend at home against Sacred Heart on September 28. LIU's home conference slate includes a four-game home stand in the middle of October, taking on St. Francis Brooklyn (Oct. 16), Merrimack (Oct. 18), Bryant (Oct. 19) and CCSU (Oct. 25). Other home conference matches include Fairleigh Dickinson (Nov. 2) and the final weekend of the regular season against Saint Francis U (Nov. 15) and Robert Morris (Nov. 16). The road schedule for the Sharks in league play includes three-straight matches at FDU (Oct. 5), Saint Francis (Oct. 11) and Robert Morris (Oct. 12). Matches at Sacred Heart (Oct. 26) and St. Francis Brooklyn (Oct. 30) and a weekend at Bryant and Merrimack on November 8 and 9 close out LIU's road schedule. The 2019 Northeast Conference Championship Tournament will take place November 22 & 23 at the highest seed.
