Mei-Lyn Bautista to Participate in 2019 William Jones Cup in Taiwan
t. John's women's basketball graduate assistant Mei-Lyn Bautista was selected to the Gilas Pilipinas women's team and will participate in the 2019 William Jones Cup in Taiwan on July 24-28. A native of Queens, Bautista is eligible to represent the Philippines at the Jones Cup through her paternal bloodline, as her grandparents on her father's side were born and raised in Quezon City, Philippines. Gilas Pilipinas is the first women's national team to be invited and represent the country in the tournament. Five other teams make up the women's Jones Cup playing field with two coming from Taiwan. Other countries sending entries are South Korea, Japan, and New Zealand. Bautista will join a lineup bannered by national team players Jack Danielle Animam, Janine Pontejos, and Afril Bernardino. The team is also reinforced by US-based players Kelli Hayes, Arnecia Hawkins, Elisha Bade. Before joining the Red Storm's staff, Bautista played four seasons at George Washington University, where she helped lead the Colonials to a 75-51 record during her time with the program. Bautista anchored GW to three postseason appearances during her tenure, including a pair of NCAA Tournament berths following Atlantic 10 titles in 2016 and 2018. The Colonials reached the 20-win plateau twice during her playing career.
