Pike Represents Brockport, USA at National Level

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The College at Brockport head women's volleyball coach, Steve Pike, participated in the High Performance Championships, representing Team USA. The High Performance Championships are a tournament that hosts many of the country's brightest future talent. The event is a coed international tournament held in the United states with the purpose of developing the international game of youth athletes in the United States. Approximately 145 teams from region HP teams, international teams, and teams from the USA Volleyball High Performance pipeline will participate. Currently registered international teams include Canada, Chile, Liberia, New Zealand, Peru and Puerto Rico. Pike was selected to work with the top 45 girls born in 2002 or 2003 in the country as a member of the USA A1 Youth Staff. The talent in the group was top-tier, with several players expected to have future collegiate and even Olympic careers. Pike served as an assistant for the 'Red Team Top 11', a group that won the Bronze Medal in the women's international junior division. In the Bronze medal match, the team fought back from a 0-2 deficit to take the title. "To coach people and hopefully have an impact on their lives is always special," noted Pike of his experience. "And then to do it for your country whether in a foreign or domestic international tournament is a dream come true. I would have never imagined I would have this honor. To get to represent USA and win a medal, I don't have words. I am so grateful and blessed to get to do this!" Pike will return to the Brockport sidelines this fall as the Golden Eagles open their 2019 campaign on August 30 in the Mount Union Invitational Tournament. The Green and Gold will open the home portion of their season on Sept. 13 when they host the Brockport Invitational.
