Aponte Sisters Continue International Play with Team Peru at the Pan American Games
WEST HAVEN, Conn. - After putting their best foot forward at the USA Softball International Cup in Atlanta, Georgia, junior catcher Kat Aponte and her sister, incoming freshman pitcher Selena Aponte both received invitations to join Team Peru at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru.
Selena participated in six games throughout the International Cup, starting in three, while Kat made four appearances and one start, in a tournament that saw substantial growth from the team as it progressed through competition with the top teams in the world.
Team Peru headed back to Fort Lauderdale, FL after the tournament, and the girls returned home in mid-July for a few days before taking off for Peru. Just two days after arriving in Lima they made their way through the Estadio Nacional del Perú for the opening ceremonies where they also earned a brief cameo on the live broadcast on ESPN U.
While in Peru, the girls will also spend a few days with their Abuela and Abuelo, from which their Peruvian heritage descends. In this time they will spend some time learning the culture and exploring all the country has to offer, while also being with their teammates in their home country.
The Aponte sisters are excited to join Team Peru once again and will continue to practice with the team before the team opens preliminary action on Aug. 3. Stay tuned to www.lima2019.pe/en for the updates on Kat, Selena, and Team Peru at the 2019 Pan American Games.
