Lemieux Named UC Track & Field Head Coach
UTICA, NY – Utica College Athletic Director David Fontaine announced the promotion of James Lemieux to head coach of the men's and women's track and field program on Wednesday. Lemieux will lead the track & field program while also serving as the top assistant for the cross country teams. Lemeuix takes over for Eric Parker who stepped down from the position earlier this Summer after four years as head coach and nine years total at Utica College. Over the last five years, Lemieux worked his way up to associate head cross country/track & field coach and was the top assistant for the program alongside Sam Catterson. During this time, Lemieux has guided seven student-athletes to nationals, and he has mentored 21 top 50 throwers and multis. Under his guidance, his throwers have broken every school record to go along with several Empire 8 Conference records. "I am both excited and humbled by this promotion to head coach. From the time I was hired in 2014 until now, I have been able to see this program grow and flourish, first under Head Coach Jason Rose, and then under head coach Eric Parker," Lemieux said. "This program has such tremendous potential for success, and we cannot wait to get to work once the students come back. We have such an amazing group of student-athletes, and we are very excited to see what they can do this year and beyond." Lemieux graduated from UMass Lowell in 2005, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History. The Haverhill, Massachusetts native was a four-year (1998-2002) member of the track and field team in college and was named team captain during his senior season.
