Defending NJCAA Champion Monroe Mustangs Women’s Soccer Ranked No. 1 in United Soccer Coaches Presea


KANSAS CITY, Mo., August 12, 2019 – Coming off its second NJCAA Div. I Women's Soccer Championship in five seasons, the Monroe College Mustangs women's soccer team is ranked as the top team in the NJCAA in the 2019 United Soccer Coaches NJCAA DI Women's Preseason Poll. The Mustangs enjoyed a magical season in 2018, going undefeated with a 16-0-1 record, the one draw being a 2-2 tie with then No. 1-ranked Eastern Florida State College on the road. Monroe won the District Championship with wins over Essex County College and Harford Community College with a 14-1 scoring margin. The Mustangs qualified for the national championship tournament as the No. 2 overall seed. They defeated Butler Community College in overtime, followed by a victory over Lewis & Clark Community College to advance through pool play. Monroe took down Iowa Western Community College, 1-0, in the semifinals, before upsetting No. 1 Tyler Junior College with a 3-1 victory to take the crown. The Mustangs will open the 2019 campaign at the CCBC-Essex Tournament, where they will take on both CCBC-Essex and Montgomery College-Rockville across the two day tournament, beginning on Saturday, Aug. 24. The Mustangs return to New Rochelle for their home opener on Sunday, Sept. 1, against Monroe Community College (ranked No. 8 by United Soccer Coaches) at 7 p.m.
