Maritime Football Takes Top Spot in 2019 ECFC Preseason Poll

MARSHFIELD, Mass. - The Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) announced its 2019 preseason poll on Tuesday, August 20. The league's six head coaches voted SUNY Maritime to the top spot with 35 total points and five first-place votes. Rounding out the poll was Dean College in second place, followed by Castelton University, Anna Maria, Gallaudet, and Alfred St, respectively. The Privateers enter the 2019 off of three straight bowl game appearances and a combined 22-11 record since 2016. Despite the preseason hype, first-year head coach Mickey Rehring and the Privateers know they have a lot of work to do. Maritime lost a majority of their offensive production from last season in quarterback Thomas Wright (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) and wide receivers Brandonn Drumgole (Mt. Sinai, N.Y./Mt. Sinai) and Christian Castle (Felton, Pa./Red Lion). "This shows that the hard work and success of past teams have garnered the respect of our conference opponents, but this team hasn't accomplished anything yet and we know we'll have a target on our back entering every game," said Rehring. "We're not taking anything for granted and we still have a lot of hard work in front of us before the regular season." Maritime opens up the 2019 season at home against Maine Maritime on Saturday, September 7 at 12:00 p.m. Following the season opener the Privateers will travel to Massachusetts for the Chowder Bowl against Mass. Maritime.
