No. 1 Monroe Mustangs Women’s Soccer Blanks No. 6 Monroe Community College in Monroe Derby

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., September 1, 2019 – In what is coined the "Monroe Derby," the No. 1-ranked Monroe College Mustangs women's soccer team shut out No. 6 Monroe Community College on Sunday by a score of 6-0 at Joseph F. Fosina Field. The Mustangs improve to 3-0 on the season with the win, while the Tribunes suffer their first loss to fall to 2-1. After shaking off the rust in her first two games back from injury, Laia Munoz Danon opened the scoring in Sunday's matchup with her first goal of the year in the sixth minute to give the Mustangs an early 1-0 edge on the Tribunes. Munoz Danon later set up Sydoney Clarke for her 10th goal of the early season in the 26th minute. She sprinted up the middle of the field toward the right of the box, sent a perfect cross to the top of the box where Clarke immediately fired into the top of the net to put the Mustangs ahead, 2-0.
