Surging Scarlet Raiders Win 4th Straight, 3-0
FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | In a tightly contested match, the Scarlet Raiders picked up their fourth straight win tonight after defeating Farmingdale State, 3-0. The win improves Rutgers University-Newark to 5-3 while Farmingdale State drops to 3-4. The Scarlet Raiders were extremely efficient in the opening set, hitting .367 while collecting 13 kills with just two errors. Comfort Akinbo had an outstanding night, she led the squad with 19 kills while hitting .320. NJAC Rookie of the Week, Alexa Rivera was second on the team with eight kills on .231 hitting. The second set had to go past the 25-point cap as both teams were flip-flopping points. Rutgers University-Newark was able to get the final few points to take a 2-0 lead in the match. Karly Gregoire joined Akinbo in having a great night as she tallied 38 assists as she was able to move the ball with ease. Brione Lockett protected the backline all night and tallied a team-high 27 digs. With a 2-0 lead in the match, the Scarlet Raiders were easily able to knock off the Rams 25-16 to earn their fifth win of the season. Up next for the women is their first NJAC match of the season against Rutgers-Newark at the Golden Dome.
