Chumo Breaks Meet Record as Monroe Mustangs Women’s Cross Country Takes First in Queensborough XC In
BRONX, N.Y., September 15, 2019 – Sophomore Sharon Chumo set a new meet record en route to a first-place finish, leading the Monroe College Mustangs women's cross country team to victory at the Queensborough XC Invitational on Sunday at Van Cortlandt Park. For the second straight year, the Mustangs took first place at the Queensborough XC Invitational, defeating 12 other teams on Sunday for the win. Chumo's first-place time of 18:49.0 set a new meet record on the 5K course. The Mustangs dominated with four runners in the Top-5 on Sunday. Thulisile Amon took second place with a time of 20:13.0 in the race. Faten Laribi followed up with a fourth-place finish at 20:38.6, while Thobile Amon clocked in at 20:43.6 to take fifth. Despite battling some difficulties on the course, Joanna Archer gutted it out to take 18th place out of 104 runners with a time of 23:37.2. Jada Blackheart finished with a time of 25:45.1 to take 37th overall. Silveri Aguero finished the 5K race with a time of 28:35.2. The Mustangs will look to keep rolling in two weeks, when they compete in the 17th Annual Ted Owen Invitational, hosted by Central Connecticut State University on Saturday, Sept. 28. The meet will be held at Stanley Quarter Park in New Britain, Conn., and is set to begin at 11 a.m.
