Cougars Extend Winning Streak to Six Games with Shutout over Bridgewater


BRIDGEWATER, Va. (9/15/19) – Melissa Way scored two goals as the Kean University field hockey team extended their winning streak to six games with a shutout victory over Bridgewater College on Sunday afternoon. Ja'Carra Jackson notched two assists for the Cougars who improve to 6-1 overall. Emily Witzke made 11 saves for the Eagles who remain winless at 0-6 overall. After a scoreless first quarter, Way tallied her first goal in the 19th minute as Jackson took a Bridgewater turnover and fired a quick pass from the right side to Way, who tapped it in for the score. Kean took a 2-0 lead in the 33rd minute, when Jackson and Way connected for an identical goal as the one scored in the second. Almost two minutes later, Jenna Patrone would score an insurance goal in the 35th minute with a shot through a crowd for the 3-0 lead. The Cougars dominated the Eagles on shots (21-5) and penalty corners (19-3). Way recorded a team-high six shots, while Rachel Mills and Patrone took four. Belly Reynoso made four saves in 56:38 and improved to 6-1 in goal.
