No. 11 Monroe Football Rolls to 70-0 Win at Delaware Valley JV


DOYLESTOWN, Pa., September 22, 2019 – Fresh off the team's bye week, the No. 11-ranked Monroe College football team picked up a 70-0 victory over Delaware Valley University JV in the Mustangs' first road game of the season on Sunday. The Mustangs improve to 3-0 on the year with the win. The Mustangs exploded out of the gate with an enormous first quarter, scoring seven touchdowns in the opening frame for a commanding 49-point lead. Monroe slowed things down after that, picking up 14 more points in the second for a 63-0 halftime lead. The Mustangs tacked on just seven more points in the third quarter to cap off the 70-0 victory. Quarterback Dominique Shoffner completed 10-of-13 passes for 225 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's win, adding a three-yard touchdown run for a three-score day. Kyle DeOrio came on and completed 5-of-5 passes for 92 yards and another touchdown. The Mustangs did most of their damage on the ground on Sunday, rushing for 253 yards and seven rushing scores. Marquise Cooper finished with seven carries for 78 yards and two scores, including touchdowns of three and 36 yards. Juwan Hall rushed seven times for 73 yards and a five-yard score. Jayvon Benton toted the ball three times for 42 yards and a 28-yard touchdown. Clayton Scott, who got the start, rushed five times for 42 yards and two early touchdowns. Jevin Frett had a big day in the air on Sunday, catching six passes for 114 yards and two touchdowns. He scored Monroe's first of the day, a 30-yard strike from Shoffner, and capped his day in the second quarter with a 17-yard score from Shoffner. Halim Dixon-King caught two passes for 74 yards. Pierre Moudourou made his one catch count, a 55-yard score from Kyle DeOrio. On defense, Heath Stephen II picked up two total tackles and an interception in the win. Devin Love recovered a fumble in the win while making three total tackles. Nick Evans had a team-high six tackles and made a pair of quarterback hits in the game. Alvin Lopes and Christopher Pettway each had a sack in the win. Nadir Pineda had a pair of tackles for loss, while each of Pettway, Lopes, Evans, Jeremiah Bryant, Tim Donnahue, Samuel Ntui-Ebob and Stephen all had one apiece. Isaiah McNeil blocked a punt on Sunday, while Suquan Stays was able to jump on the ball and recover it for Monroe. Idrissa Nikiema was a perfect 10-for-10 on extra points in the win on Sunday. Jonathan Cardoza-Chicas averaged 48.4 yards on 11 kickoffs. Lucas Nunez returned two punts for 40 yards in the win. The Mustangs get back on the road next weekend, as they visit Louisburg College on Saturday, Sept. 28, in Louisburg, N.C.
