Women’s Golf Claims Niagara Invitational Title Behind McLean’s First-Place 74


Lewiston, NY – The Wagner College women's golf team, led by sophomore Heather McLean's first-place round of 74, claimed the team title at the 18-hole Niagara Purple Eagles Women's Invitational held on Monday. McLean's four-over par winning score was four shots better than freshman teammate Brianna Fitzpatrick and Sarah Godfrey of host Niagara, each of whom shot scores of 78 in the event contested at the 5,982-yard, par 70 Niagara Falls Country Club. All five of the Seahawk golfers who teed it up in the four-team, 22-player event, earned top-10 finishes. In addition to McLean and Fitzpatrick, junior Georgia Naples came in with a 79, which was good for fourth place, one shot better than classmate Elise Keane's 80 which put her in a tie for fifth place. Sophomore Kyree Conaway's 87 rounded out the Wagner scoring and was good for a tie for 10th-place finish. In the team competition, the Seahawks' score of 311 (+31) was 27 shots ahead of second-place Niagara (338, +58). Le Moyne College (356, +76) and La Salle (358, + 78) finished in third and fourth-place, respectively. The Green & White are next in action on October 19-20 when they compete in the Towson Fall Invitational.
