Football Returns Home for NJAC Opener vs. Salisbury
Montclair, NJ - After opening the year with three straight road games and over 1,800 miles of travel, Montclair State is finally makes its Sprague Field debut with its NJAC opener against No. 15 Salisbury University. Montclair State will be looking to bounce back after a 16-3 loss at No. 22/25 Hobart last week. The Red Hawks turned the ball over four times and committed eight penalties while being held to just a field goal. That came off the foot of sophomore ANTHONY MARINELLI, who connected from 21 yards out late in the first quarter tying the game at 3-3. ZACK ZACCONE and JAIER GARRETT registered 11 and 10 tackles, respectively. Playing an nine-game schedule in 2019, the Sea Gulls have been off for two weeks having last played on September 14. Salisbury knocked off Wisconsin-Oshkosh, 24-19 at home. The Sea Gulls jumped out to a 24-0 lead before the Titans tried to mount a rally in the fourth. Michael Fowler and Hopeton Mair each scored on the ground while Jack Lanham tossed a touchdown pass to Damien King. Sean Carroll led the defense with nine tackles, and an interception. This will be the 14th meeting between the Red Hawks and Sea Gulls with Montclair State leading 8-4 however Salisbury has the last three meetings. The Sea Gulls won the first contest 13-7 in 1986 before MSU won the next eight contests. Salisbury snapped that streak in 2015 with a 46-16 win at Sprague Field in the first meeting since 2006. The Sea Gulls took the 2018 game, 17-15 in Maryland.
