Garreffa, Padron Send Volleyball Past Centenary


MADISON, N.J. (October 10, 2019) – Senior Nathalia Padron and junior Jessica Garreffa combined for 25 kills as the FDU volleyball team topped Centenary University 25-10, 25-9, 25-12 Thursday evening. FDU improves to 6-9, while Centenary drops to 0-10. The Cyclones closed to within three at 7-4 early in the opening frame before the Devils reeled off eight of the next nine points. The rally was finished off by a pair of unforced Cyclone errors. A kill trimmed the deficit to 13, but Padron and Garreffa went back-to-back with kills to polish off the first set. Centenary kept the second stanza close, as a 6-2 run brought the set to 7-6. The Cyclones pulled level at nine before sophomore Kacie Ros stepped up to the service line. The sophomore fired off 16 consecutive tallies to finish off set two. During the big run by Ros, Garreffa pinned down five kills while junior Liz Moise pinned down two. A 6-0 spurt with junior Rebecca Morse propelled the Devils to a quick 7-2 lead in the final period, with rookie Sophia Miskulin notching a big solo block. Padron served 10 straight points, including three service aces, as the lead swelled to 14. After getting within 11, Garreffa slammed home a kill to bring up match point. Padron put the final point away shortly after that, ending the match with a kill off an overpass. INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • The Devils out-hit the Cyclones .370 - (-.053).

  • Padron hit a blistering .440, committing just three errors while adding a match-high 14 kills. The senior added five aces and three digs.

  • FDU committed a season-low 10 attack errors.

  • Garreffa pounded home 11 kills while adding a team-best nine digs.

UP NEXT The Devils will be back in action, taking on Worcester State University and Wellesley College in Wellesley, Mass. Saturday. The action starts at 11 a.m.
