Region Win Helps Monroe Mustangs Men’s Soccer Fortify No. 1 Ranking in NJCAA Poll
CHARLOTTE, N.C., October 14, 2019 – After defeating ASA College on Saturday and claiming the Region XV Regular-Season Title, the Monroe College Mustangs men's soccer team held tight to the No. 1 spot in the NJCAA Div. I Men's Soccer Rankings for Week 7, as announced by the NJCAA on Monday. Monroe rolled to a 6-0 shutout victory over its region rival on Saturday in a primetime matchup in New Rochelle. Luca Erhardt provided the first three goals of the game, while Shawn Manley West, Markus Maurer and Itsuki Namiki each scored after that to help solidify the win. The Mustangs were dominant throughout, outshooting their opponent, 29-2, in the win. As a team, the 10-0 Mustangs continue to lead the country in goals scored per game with an average of 8.00. Their 80 total goals are third most in the NJCAA, trailing teams that have played 16 and 19 games, respectively. Monroe leads the country in shots per game with 29.6. The team's 0.60 goals-against average is fourth-best in the nation. The Mustangs conclude their regular-season schedule on Saturday, Oct. 19, when they visit Monroe Community College up in Rochester, N.Y. The game is set to begin at 12 p.m.
