Beacons snap Skidmore streak

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.— UMass Boston scored the game's final three goals in a 5-1 New England Hockey Conference win over Skidmore College Friday night at the Saratoga Springs City Rink. The loss snaps a seven-game unbeaten streak for the Thoroughbreds who drop to 7-3-4 overall and 3-2-2 in the NEHC. The Beacons are 8-5-1 and 4-2-1. UMB broke a 0-0 tie with a pair of goals in a 1:02 span. Jeffrey Skinner opened the scoring with a power-play goal at 12:10 and Even Rochowiak followed up at 13:12 for a 2-0 lead. Skidmore bounced back quickly with a quick second period goal. Tyler Hall rang-up his first of the season from Matthew Monk and Matt Muzyka 20 seconds into the period. With the teams skating 4-on-4 Ethan Nitkin scored his eighth of season at 5:56 to give the Beacons a 3-1 advantage. UMB tacked on a pair of insurance goals in the third from Derek Caruso at 5:26 and Skinner at 10:59 for the 5-1 final. UMASS had a 34-27 advantage in shots and killed six Skidmore power plays. Brandon Kasel had 29 saves for the Thoroughbreds. Bailey MacBurnie had 26 saves for UMB.
