Three Mustangs Reach Podium on Final Day of NJCAA Outdoor Championships
LEVELLAND, Texas, May 13, 2021 – The Monroe College Mustangs track and field team had a strong final day of the 2021 NJCAA Div. I Outdoor Track & Field Championships at South Plains College on Thursday. Three student-athletes reached the podium in their respective events, while two more turned in strong efforts as well to close out the week in Texas.
Enock Kimutai earned the highest finish for the Mustangs on the day. He took third place overall in the 5,000-meter run, clocking in at 15:06.32. Kimutai's performance landed him on the podium for the event, and makes him an All-American for the 5K. Kimutai had previously also taken third overall in Tuesday's 10,000-meter run.
Aaliyah Moore took fifth place overall in the women's 800-meter run on the final day of the NJCAA Outdoor Championships to earn her place on the podium. The fifth-place time of 2:17.56 also earned her All-American status for the event.
Mohlouwa Koos Molutsi earned All-American honors in the men's 1,500-meter run on Thursday, placing sixth overall in the event. His time of 4:00.37 earned him his spot on the podium.
Thobile Amon competed in the finals of the women's 1,500-meter run on Thursday. She finished the race in 4:54.81, narrowly missing the podium by just three-hundredths of a second.
Tshwanelo Maruping wrapped up the week for the women's side by competing in the 5,000-meter run. She clocked in with a time of 20:45.12 in the race.
Thursday's competition wrapped up the 2021 outdoor season for the Mustangs. The program will pick things back up in the Fall 2021 season for cross country season.
