Men's Track and Field Readies for Outdoor Heps
ITHACA, N.Y. – The Cornell men's track and field team will compete at the Outdoor Heps meet on Saturday and Sunday this weekend at Weaver Stadium in Princeton, New Jersey. "The Outdoor Heps is the most important meet of the year for us," said Adrian Durant, The George Heekin '29 Head Coach of Men's Track and Field and Cross Country. "We're looking forward to a great competition and for some very special things to happen. Our guys have been preparing all year for this and are ready to take it to the rest of the league." The Big Red enters the meet with the No. 4 ranking in the USTFCCCA Northeast region, which ranks second amongst Heps foes. Cornell trails third ranked Harvard by just 1.18 points. Additionally, the Big Red's triple jump unit ranks third in the nation with an average mark of 15.34m (50-4 ft.).The national event squad rankings are based on the top four results from individual schools. Cornell wrapped up its regular season with a pair of meets last week. Cornell competed first at the Penn Relays from Thursday-Saturday. Junior Steve Neumaier continued to show great improvement, closing his final 200 meters very strongly to place fourth overall in the Championship section. He finished with an 11-second PR of 8:53.15 to move to No. 8 all-time in school history. Senior co-captain Austin Lyons ran a wind-legal 14.00 in the 110m hurdles, which is No. 3 all-time in program history. On Sunday, Cornell hosted its annual Big Red Invitational and posted four event wins. Following Heps, the Big Red will compete at the ECAC/IC4A Championships on May 11-12, which will also take place at Weaver Stadium.
