Field Hockey Advances to Round of 16; Defeats Marywood 1-0

Madison, NJ (November 13, 2019)- The FDU Field Hockey team defeated Marywood University in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament 1-0 to advance to next weekend's Sweet 16. The Pacers began the game with control of the ball. In the eighth minute, Marywood penetrated past the Devils defense for the shot, but they would be denied, as Junior Megan March came up with the save. Seven seconds later, it was March again, as she squandered the Pacers' second scoring attempt. In the 14th minute, FDU attempted their first shot of the game, as Senior Jessica Pietracatella had her attempt stopped by the Marywood goaltender. The game remained 0-0, as it headed into the second frame. The Devils picked up offensive steam, as junior Marissa Colvin fired off a shot in the 20th minute. Four seconds later, Sophomore Haleigh Flukey's attempt landed wide. In the 22nd minute, Flukey launched two additional shots, that the Pacers saved. Both teams were rendered scoreless, going into the third quarter. The Devils clearly had the offensive advantage, as they had four shot attempts in the 33rd minute. In the 42nd minute, Senior Maggie Sohns had back-to-back shot attempts, though, both were saved by Marywood. The flurry of offense from FDU brought them momentum going into quarter number four. Having controlled the first six minutes of play in the final frame, the Devils were finally rewarded as a Sohns pass was shot in by Flukey to give FDU the 1-0 lead. FDU would control the play for the remaining eight minutes to seal the first-round victory. UP NEXT The Devils travel to Salisbury, MD to take on Salisbury University in the NCAA tournament Round of 16, Saturday November 16.
